Welcome to the History Department at Armstrong Atlantic State University. This site contains information about programs of study in History as well as current and past projects which the History department has sponsored and conducted.
If you love history, what better place to study than the beautiful, historic city of Savannah, Georgia. Not far from the university, students can browse original documents from the 1730s. Local resources aren't limited to the eighteenth century. History students can find records pertaining to African-American history, military history, women's studies, the Civil War, and Southern studies. Public History links students to local organizations and agencies. The full time faculty, all of whom hold doctoral degrees, represent a wide range of expertise. Specializations include the history of science and technology, colonization, Asian studies, Southern studies, Africa-American history, women's studies, Latin America, China, Africa, European studies as well as public history. Another feature is the department's links to Phi Alpha Theta, the history national honor society. AASU is home to that organization's Sigma Theta Chapter. For advanced students, AASU offers a Master's Degree in History or Public History.
