Dr. Thomas Howard received his B.A. and M.A. from the University of Chicago. He also received an M.A. and his Ph.D. in Geography from the University of California at Berkeley. His research interests include the historical geography of transportation in the United States. His book, Sierra Crossing: First Roads to California was published by the University of California Press in 1998.
