This year your chapter dues will pay for four Friday night movies, two induction ceremonies and an occasional party invitation!  What a bargain!  Please see Dr. Thomas Howard if you have yet to pay your chapter dues.  THis semester they increase to $10.00 a year, but it is still the best bargain on campus.

 

January 23, 2001
Dr. Richard Nuccia will address the Savannah Council on World Affairs on the subject, "Rethinking US-Cuba Policy" at the Coastal Georgia Center, 8:00pm.  See Dr. Pruden for details.
 
February 10, 2001
 
The Consortium on Georgia History will sponsor a one-day conference on current research in Georgia History.  See Dr.. Price for details.
 
February 15, 2001
The Fourth Annual Symposium on the Irish Diaspora begins at 7:30 pm in the Fine Arts Auditorium.  The keynote speaker, Dr. Lawrence Kohl, will be discussing, "Meager's Irish Brigade:  Why They Fought."  See Dr. Gleeson for details.
 
February 16, 2001
Dr. Fertig will introduce Days of Heaven for our first Movie Night of the Spring Semester.  Please plan to attend at 6:30pm in room 156 University Hall.

Dr. Hall's HIST 7500 class will be traveling to Boston to research the Kennedy Administration at the JFK Library.

Dr. Carraway will introduce the movie All Quiet on the Western Front for our last Movie Night of the school year.

Phi Alpha Theta Regional Conference will be held at Georgia State University in Atlanta.  See Dr. Hopkins for details.
 
April 13-14, 2001
GAH Annual Meeting will be held at Augusta State University.  This year's theme will be "Identity and History."  See Dr. Nancy White for details.
 
April 29, 2001
Spring Induction will be held at the Round House Museum.  A tour of the downtown facility will be included in the event.
 
May 12, 2001
Commencement

July20-August5, 2001

Study the History and Culture of the Dominican Republic.  The tour is open to Students and Faculty at a cost of $1625.  A $100 deposit is due by February.  Students can earn up to 6 credit hours.  See Dr. Hall for details.

July 28 - August 11, 2001

Earn 6 hours of upper-level history credit and tour Ireland during the Summer Semester.  A $200 deposit is needed by March 1.  Tour package starts at $2395.  See Dr. Gleeson for details.

Don't forget the Phi Alpha Theta book drive!  You will soon see bags all over the campus marked with the Phi Alpha THeta key.  Please collect books suitable for library use and place them in the bags or bring them by the History Department.  The Sigma Theta Chapter is helping Dr. Michael Hall collect books for a Latin American Library in need of English language texts.  Thanks in advance for all your help.  Cash donations to help with shipping and handling charges will be greatly appreciated.
