Friday, June 4 Process Tours

Tour A:

Cotton Gins, Ships, the Port, and Pigments.

8:30 AM departure

This tour will begin at the Lummus Corporation, a firm that embodies both the
past and present of southern industry. Founded in 1863, long based in
Columbus, Georgia, Lummus moved to Savannah with the opening of its new plant
in February 1999. One of our tour guides will be Mr. Donald Van Doorn, holder
of over fifty patents related to cotton gin machinery. Other stops include
Intermarine USA, a major producer of ships from yachts to naval vessels, and a
cottage industry that produces transport vehicles used at port facilities.
After lunch, we'll tour the Georgia Ports in more detail, and then on to
Kemira, an international giant in the titanium pigments industry.
