The day will be spent at the Hyatt for conference paper sessions
and Annual
Business Meeting. Continental breakfast, coffee breaks, and the luncheon are
included in conference registration.
The evening will be a memorable event at the Historic Railroad Shops, an
antebellum rail shop complex that SIA helped save and HAER helped document in
the 1970s. The program will include extensive tours of the site, Low Country
Boil dinner (a local specialty with shrimp, sausage, potatoes and corn served
informally), and an entertainment program that includes the regional Gullah
and spiritual music tradition of the Sea Island Singers, as well as
performances by gandy dancers,a railroad balladeer, and more. As on
Thursday, trolley rides or guided walking tours will be offered to get you
from the hotel to the Historic Railroad Shops. (About 1-1/2 miles, as the
crow flies).
