Dr. Jason Tatlock completed his Bachelor of Theology degree at Prairie Bible College, his MA in the Ancient History of Syro-Palestine at Jerusalem University College, and his MA and PhD in Near Eastern Studies at the University of Michigan. His research covers a variety of fields and eras from the prehistoric Mediterranean world to the contemporary Middle East. He is especially intrigued by the religious aspects of the cultures he studies as well as their expressions of violence. His diverse interests are embodied well by his dissertation, How in Ancient Times They Sacrificed People — Human Immolation in the Eastern Mediterranean Basin with Special Emphasis on Ancient Israel and the Near East, which examines religiously motivated violence as represented in the material culture and textual traditions of Greece, Anatolia, Syro-Palestine, Egypt, North Africa, and Mesopotamia. |
