FORT PULASKI

The present masonry fortifications were built under the supervision of Robert E. Lee, but could not withstand bombardment by rifled artillery on Federal Navy Gunships.  The fort was preserved and restored by the Civilian Conservation Corp, Camp 460 in the late 1930s.  It is the property of the National Park Service and is open to the public.
