The burial ground at Fort Pulaski is easy to miss. It contains the graves of the 13 members of the Immortal 600 that died, between October 1864 and March of 1865. The men died either of dysentery or dehydration caused by dysentery.

| The Immortal 600 were Confederate Officers who had been imprisoned in Charleston, South Carolina. During their stay in South Carolina, the prisoners were kept on Morris Island in the Charleston Harbor. This placed the men in the line of fire from Fort Sumter's artillery. 550 of the original 600 were transfered to Fort Pulaski in October 1864. In March of 1865 the remaining survivors were transferred to Fort Delaware. | ![]() |
