Christ Church as a congregation dates to the beginning of the Georgia colony. John Wesley was its first Curate. This is the second building on the original site. Greek Revival was the favored nineteenth century architectural style in the South. The rationale for this preference is the origin of the style under Athenian democracy and the fact that in Athens slavery was an accepted part of the workforce.
The undecorated columns have Ionic capitals. The architrave is decorated simply with a cross.
