Laurel Grove South Cemetery
Laurel Grove and Laurel Grove South were opened in 1853. A four acre plot on the south end of Laurel Grove Cemetery was reserved for African Americans. Originally the two cemeteries were joined, but the construction of Interstate 16 through downtown Savannah separated the two cemeteries. This cemetery replaced the Savannah African American Cemetery near Potters field.
