Monterey Square

at the intersection of Bull and Wayne Streets

Named for the United States victory over Mexico at Monterey in 1847, in which Savannah militias participated, Monterey Square has as its centerpiece a memorial to Revolutionary War hero Casimir Pulaski..  Carved in Carrara marble to the design of Robert Launitz, the monument's classical motifs reflect the style of the times and of the great houses built around the square.  Mercer House, on the southwest trust lot, has been featured in such films as "Glory" and "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil."  ____________ was the subject of a PBS "This Old House" makeover, and ___________, on the southwest corner of Bull and Gordon Streets, is one of Savannah's finest Italianate homes.
